Now I know what you're thinking, "slow your roll, what the heck is meta data?" Well, in short, meta data is the probably the single most important snippet of information you can optimize your blog posts with. Basically it is a keyword-rich description of what your post is about. It is important to include this data so search engines, like Google, can easily find your content and display it in relevant search results.
This can be accomplished in 3 easy steps:
1. Go to Blogger > Settings > Search preferences.
2. Click on Edit then select the Yes button saying Enable Search Description. At this time you can add an overall description of your blog in the box and then click on Save Changes.
3. This will also enable the Search Description option on each of your individual posts. Whenever you are in compose mode writing a new post, take a look in your right sidebar - you will see a tab titled Search Description, just click on it to write the meta description of that post. Easy as pie!
See it there? That's where you can include a short, keyword-rich description of what your post is about. Think of it as a summary. This info is not only used for Google crawlers, but it makes your search results more appealing. You see, if you don't include a description Google will pull in any ol' chunk of text from your post to act as your description.
See this post below, it does not have a search description. And you can see from the post description that Google has gone ahead and pulled text from my post. Not exactly the greatest description of Sea Salt & Balsamic Vinegar Kale Chips, huh? If I were browsing for a kale chip recipe, I wouldn't exactly be enticed to click on this link...
So there you have it folks, with a little creative wordsmithing you too can increase your traffic!
